Harry Kane names Chelsea legend John Terry as one of the two toughest defenders he’s faced
Harry Kane has picked out John Terry ang Giorgio Chiellini as two of the toughest challenges he has ever had to face on a football pitch, describing them both as ‘really smart’ defenders.
The England captain has taken on many of the world’s best centre-backs while playing up front for Tottenham and the Three Lions, in the Premier League, Champions League , World Cup and European Championship.
In an Instagram Q&A, the 29-year-old was asked for the defenders who have presented the hardest challenges to him over his career and it is the Chelsea and Juventus legends that have stood out to him.
‘I think early on in my career facing John Terry,’ Kane said on Instagram when asked for the hardest defender he’s faced.
‘Just a really smart defender, knew where to put his body, knew how to stop my runs. So that was a great learning curve. ‘Then Chiellini, obviously played against him against Italy and Juventus. Same thing, really smart, strong, physical. So them two stand out.’
It was a Manchester United legend who got the nod when asked for the best player to play with, though, with Kane simply posting a picture of him alongside Wayne Rooney playing for England.
Kane is closing in on Rooney’s goal record for the Three Lions, with the retired striker finishing his international career on 53 in 120 appearances, while the Spurs hero is on 50 from just 73 caps.
Unfortunately for England, the two prolific forwards didn’t play together at a great time for the national team, memorably both in the starting XI in the Euro 2016 defeat to Iceland.
